Don Bosco Balprafulta is an NGO working with children in Slums, Missing or Runaway Children on railway stations in the city of Mumbai through their projects Rihaaee, Talash & Community. Established in April 2000, Don Bosco Balprafulta focuses on enabling children to claim their rights and be able to live in a free and protected society.
A part of this project we are introducing Dance Movement Therapy Workshops with www.salamaleque.de headed by Mrs.Heidi Rehse from Germany.
Salamaleque is known particularly for its high artistic standards as well as for its work in the field of Community dance, working with people in different situations: children and young people excluded from mainstream education, street kids, the displaced, people with disability, women and men in prisons, marginalized communities or divided by cultural, social or religious circumstances.
A dance project is able to give the opportunity to transform, through the medium of dance and theatre, their view of themselves, their abilities and their potential. And to change where necessary the way in which others view and judge them. Salamaleque is convinced that dance and specially performance can transform the lives of people and communities: supporting and encouraging comprehension, cohesion, sympathy and dialogue.
An important aim is to create a basis, on which the work can be continued and its positive effects established and developed as an important element of community life.
Salamaleque expands cultural understanding through photography projects and the documentation of every project. This unique images promote communication across cultural and languages barriers using the common languages of dance, theatre and photography.

The enthusiasm of the boys was so great that the dance was included as an integral part of everyday life. In August 2010, Heidi Rehse continued the project and started a project in Kochi, Kerala.
Lonavla, Mumbai, since 2011
In April 2011 we could start a dance and dance therapy project in Lonavla, Mumbai, and a therapy and rehabilitation center for drug addicted street children, as well as in a Bosco orphanage in Mumbai.

Andheri, Mumbai, since 2011
In November 2011, an evening school for 250 slum children in Andheri. Mumbai is going to start. In addition to the normal school schedule, there is a Salamaleque art school offering daily classes in dance, yoga, theater and dance therapy. This is the first such school for slum and street children in India. This evening school has been developed in collaboration with the BOSCO MISSION, the Children's Fund and the Salamaleque NGO and is managed in India by Fr.Barnabe.
It was really great and a very good programme for the Maria Ashiana Terapeutic Centre in Lonavla. I had the good fortune of being present at much of Heidi´s stay there and for the performances. She managed to get out the talent of the street drug addicts, relate to their inner feelings and help in their therapy and recovery.
It would be good to recommend her to to more therapy places with street children.
-- Fr. Barnabe d`Souza, Mumbai
Mrs.Heidi Rehse will be in India from 27th Nov 2011 to 2nd Dec 2011. She will be working I collaboration with Ms.Gayatree Joshi (Dance therapist from Salamaleque India) will be with Salamaleque Mumbai, India and help in conducting different workshops.
These children love to dance and express to their fullest while some do not at the same time.
Its the greatest challenge to bring in a change in such timid kids through dance as a therapy . My challenge has always been to help and teach kids / people who have never danced, to make them the best dancers and help them express as they never have. I believe in helping those who really need help than helping the ones who can help themselves.
Dance has always been my talent and life and I want to use this skill and touch many lives of these underprivileged children and youth and change their lives too. Gayatree Joshi, dance instructor for Salamaleque in Mumbai.
The Workshops will be conducted at
1) St.Dominic Savio High School Andheri with children from broken families
2)Children's home with runaway children, Missing children & juvenile delinquents at Sandhurst Road
